Denim Trends

Denim Trends

Some things in our wardrobes come and go, while others come back season after season, like denim.

Ever since spunky Genoese Navy sailors first strutted around in denim back in the 1500’s this fabric, which originated in the French town of Nimes, has created strong style statements.

In recent years fashion has ripped up the denim rulebook (and often the material) more than ever, with fresh ideas and fascinating details. From shirtdresses to shearling to creative tailoring, denim is still having a moment.

Within the Pre-Fall 2015 collections were deep indigo trenches, courtesy of Alexander McQueen, and spring collections saw ankle skimming ‘70s inspired denim skirts.

Two of the recent denim trends to emerge that translate easily into the ready to wear category include denim on denim and denim dresses. You can see more on these denim trends and styling inspo (that you can shop) below.
Denim on denim

Double denim is certainly back, but it can be tricky to pull off.

Modernise your look by using contrasting shades of denim. Think dark jeans with a light chambray top.

This will help you avoid any flashbacks to the “denim tuxedo” vibes of decades past.

If you want to avoid looking costume-like or dated, make sure you shy from any outfit extras that have a western or ‘80s feel. Instead wear your denim on denim with polished accessories and a confident attitude!

Above is my take on the double denim trend. What do  think of it? I’d love to hear your comments in the comment section or you can shop the look below!
