So you’ve slept in again…how to get good hair, quickly

Sometimes you just need to hit the snooze button. Unfortunately, a team of professional hair dressers aren’t usually on stand-by for those of us who want an extra little bit of sleep, but happen to be having a bad hair day.

Over time I’ve picked up a few little ways on how to look put-together in the hair department, that will still let you get out of the door on time, so I thought I’d share them with you all.

Dry Shampoo

207578_normalI may have come late to the party on this product…but now I’ve found the benefits of dry shampoo, I’m singing them to the roof top.

I’m using Batiste Tropical Dry Shampoo at the moment.

The scent isn’t overpowering (it features notes of coconut, melon and vanilla) and it’s simple, yet effective, to use.

All you need to do is tip your head upside down and spray liberally on the roots. This will boost the hair and give you some lift and movement. Then just work the product through with your fingertips and style as usual.

The water-less formulation penetrates hair shafts and absorbs dirt, grease and product build-up.

Section & Style

If you have time, straighten or curl only the top section and front side strands of your hair; This will make your finished style look a lot more polished.

I personally do this before putting my hair up in a bun for work when I’m in a hurry. Just make sure you have enough bobby pins on hand to ensure the back of your hair and the bun itself looks neat.

Go-To Hairstyles

It’s always good to have a couple of last minute hairstyles up your sleeve that you know will suit you and you can wear with confidence.

In addition to a high bun, my go-to’s are:

  • The classic ponytail. To create a more polished style I take a thin section of hair from the underside of the ponytail, and wrap it around my hairband to hide it, securing the style with 1-2 small bobby pins.
  • Half-up-half-down. This looks great with a few carefully styled curls and can help you get away with a slightly messier hair texture (my natural hair is a bit curly). I also often do a half-up-half-down look on the weekends, but usually with the half-up section in a messy top knot.
  • Braids are wonderful as they can hide a multitude of hair sins. I tend to braid the front section of my hair and pin it back into a half-up-half-down look or into a bun.

I’d love to hear what your go-to hair tricks are for busy mornings! Comment below 🙂

Exactly. I don’t know what I was doing before Batiste. And of course, I think your blog is lovely! 🙂
