’90s Style Revival

History tends to repeat itself— this saying definitely holds true in the fashion world.

What prompted this Trending Tuesday post were two totally different ’90s flashback looks worn by my friends.

One outfit was an appropriately eclectic ’90s ensemble for a themed party (think butterfly clips – amaze!) and the other was a chic evening look that encompassed an old school trend that has made a resurgence of late.

There are so many ’90s trends that are making a comeback at the moment.

While there are some trends from that era that are wiggity-wiggity-wiggity-whack, others are definitely wearable when modernised and styled right (in my opinion anyway).

So here we go…

The ’90s beauty trend worth giving another go is deep berry lips. While this shade may have been a hit in the ’90s it is also being spotted frequently on today’s red carpet. The trick is to find a shade that suits you and pair with subtle eye makeup.

Jewellery wise, it’s all about the choker. This piece has come a long way since the ’90s. Remember the tattoo-style version? The look still lives on, as shown on recent catwalks, but in a more sophisticated style.

As for the clothes themselves, nineties grunge is back in a big way, albeit more polished. Think flannel shirts, crop tops and everything denim, in particular denim jackets.

Crop top? Check. Dark berry lip? Check. Grunge vibe? Checkity check. Actress Leighton Meester’s outfit epitomises the modernised ’90s look. Image via Pinterest.

Khaki: Work this catwalk trend into your wardrobe

Khaki appears to be this season’s must-have colour, for the shade is swamping the high street.

Since it hit the runway over 40 years ago, khaki has become a recurring fashion trend, and this season it is back in force.

Appearing on the catwalks of Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Chanel and more in recent months, you can see the although khaki may have been inspired by the armed forces, the modern take is far from uniform.

Every shade on the colour spectrum, from the deepest olive to desert shade, has been making an appearance.

From featuring on collared dresses to jackets, coats, trousers and boots, ready-for-combat colours have reigned supreme on the runway.

How wearable is this trend off the catwalk?

The tip is to not go head-to-toe in one khaki hue.

Offset dark with light.

Wear this colour with neutrals.

Add a feminine touch with white and tan pairings or go for edge with black.

Easter Inspo

Easter inspirations

It’s the long weekend. Huzzah!

In honour of Easter, I thought it’d be fun to go on Polyvore and create an egg-citing style and inspo board.

What do you think? It’s a bit of an eclectic assortment. I’m absolutely loving pastel shades and monochrome, minimalist dressing at the moment. Plus that bunny looks cute enough to cuddle!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend.

Say Sheers

Sheers image

It would be an understatement to say that the sheer trend is still going strong this season.

The look has been interpreted in a multitude of ways by high fashion designers and fast fashion chains.

From showing a little skin with peekaboo panels to translucent fabrics, sheer dresses or blouse and shirt combos are trending everywhere. See-through shoes and handbags are also making an appearance!

There’s a line between trendy and tasteless when it comes to the transparency style.

The knack to this trend is often to try choosing outfits that focus on bareness in one area only.

If you’re nervous about trying this look out, accentuate bareness in areas like the shoulders and legs, rather than over the bust.

Another way to work this look is to try styles that play on different textures and patterns, rather than traditional see-through fabrics.
